Daycare
Reaches Out to Community As Part of Their
Mission
|
HoneyTree
Early Learning Centers (HoneyTree ELC) cares
for nearly 1300 children from over 900 area
families each day. They demonstrated their
commitment to children again earlier this month
when friend and neighbor Elsie Scott of
Salem
had a devasting house fire which displaced them
and left the children with no safe place to play.
HoneyTree reacted with a short term scholarship
for two of Elsie Scott’s children.
The girls, Tiano and
Kenya
, attended the summer camp program at HoneyTree
for three days a week at no charge.
Ms. Scott remembered HoneyTree ELC because Sara
Gill, Center Director, was a member of her church
choir. When
she called the administrative office to ask if her
girls could come on a part-time basis for a few
weeks; the marketing director went to work to
coordinate an exception to the enrollment
policies. “I
didn’t expect them to let the girls come for
free,” said Elsie.
“I was trying to get a lower rate, but
got a gift instead.”
Community Outreach is a year-round part of
HoneyTree’s childcare business.
In December 2004, HoneyTree partnered with
the City Police and the
County
Sheriff
’s office for Car Seat Safety checks with
parents and caregivers.
The Company has sponsored a $2500
scholarship in the Young
Heroes Awards
coordinated by a team of local businesses
(http://www.wbra.org/html/comconnect/heroes/heroes.html)
for the past two years. HoneyTree
is often busy providing their moonwalk bouncer at
school fairs and community events to entertain
children and help with fundraising for various
causes.

“We
take our responsibility as corporate citizens
seriously,” explains CEO Tina
Kit
chens. “We’ve
been providing child care in the Valley for 25
years and have always felt this is one more way
for us to support and promote healthy families and
children. For
special cases like Elsie Scott and her girls, we
made a business decision to waive the tuition. We
were happy to welcome them into our HoneyTree
family, even if it was just for a short time”.
HoneyTree’s
mission is to be a support system for families,
celebrate and appreciate children and create an
environment where staff and parents together provide
all the pieces for a happy, healthy childhood. |
